Commitment to Excellence in Medical Education Presentation Series
As the LCME site visit to review the accreditation of our M.D. degree program approached, a series of informational sessions were planned for all faculty. These sessions focused on the various documents submitted to the LCME describing numerous aspects of the educational program and student services as well as the larger institution and resources.
The LCME Accreditation Standards
Section 1: Institutional Setting (IS) Standards
Issues addressed include institutional accreditation, bylaws, governing board policies,
authority of chief official, interaction with other professional programs, research
opportunities, service learning, diversity policy
Section 2: Medical Education (ED) Standards
Issues addressed include program objectives, oversight for clinical education, calendar,
required content, cultural competence, ethics/professionalism, preparation of residents,
evaluation of learning, curriculum management, instructional sites, standards for
promotion
Section 3: Medical Students (MS) Standards
Issues include admission requirements, selection process, visiting and transfer students,
academic and career counseling, financial aid, health services and personal counseling,
learning environment, promotion policies
Section 4: Faculty (FA) Standards
Issues include faculty qualifications, preparation for teaching, personnel policies,
faculty governance of educational program
Section 5: Educational Resources (ER) Standards
Issues include finances, facilities, clinical teaching facilities, information resources
and libraries

Accreditation Outcome
Letter of determination sent October 8, 2013, stated:
"After reviewing the report of the LCME survey team that conducted a full survey visit April 28-May 1, 2013, the LCME voted to continue the accreditation of the medical education program leading to the MD degree at the University of Toledo College of Medicine for an eight-year term. The program's next full survey will take place during the 2020-2021 academic year."
