Department Chair of Adult, Family and Population Health

Position Description:

The College of Nursing at the University of Toledo invites applications from highly-motivated candidates for a full-time, 52-week, benefits-eligible, tenure-track position as the Department Chair of Adult, Family and Population Health. This position is accountable to the dean of the College of Nursing. The department chair is the first line administrator responsible to oversee and work directly with faculty, program directors, program coordinators and clinical associates in addition to advisors, staff, students and administrators in accomplishing the mission, goals and program outcomes for their assigned academic program in the college. This position provides leadership for recruitment and retention of faculty in the college. The department chair:

  • Is expected to participate in teaching, scholarly activities and service commensurate with criteria for faculty rank
  • Is accountable for the achievement of the undergraduate and graduate purposes, goals and program outcomes. This includes program development, implementation and evaluation of outcomes for continuous improvement.
  • Provides leadership of the department, inclusive of new faculty orientation, faculty staffing/assignments, faculty career development, faculty evaluation and promotion and provides recommendations to the dean for faculty compensation, merit and/or sabbatical leaves.
  • Collaborates with the members of the college leadership team to develop/deploy budget, recommends faculty development needs and recommends the initiation, renewal or termination of faculty and clinical associate appointments. 
  • Evaluates program director and clinical placement coordinators.
  • Works collaboratively with the dean, associate dean for academic affairs, associate dean of research & scholarship and assistant dean of student services to develop, implement and evaluate academic programs as it relates to the master plan for evaluation in the college.
  • Actively contributes to activities related to Ohio Board of Nursing program approval reviews/reports and all university and national accreditation reviews/reports.
  • Participates in student and faculty orientations; serves as an ex-officio member of appropriate college committees; prepares program documents and reports; and reviews and seeks dean approval of policies/procedures or documents internal or external to the college.
  • In collaboration with the associate dean of academic affairs, initiates clinical agreements with agencies required for the department to accomplish program goals and outcomes. Coordinates any agency requirements for students and faculty.

Qualifications/Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Doctoral degree required in nursing or closely related field. Doctorate required for tenure. MSN required.
  • Must be eligible for RN licensure in Ohio and meet background check requirements according to the State of Ohio.
  • Must have an unencumbered current license as a registered nurse in the state of Ohio before beginning position.
  • Must have broad knowledge of academic nursing, common university academic standards and of student and program academic requirements.
  • Experience in undergraduate and graduate education with current educational technologies and distance education expected.
  • Previous teaching experience is preferred.
  • Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal and communication skills are required.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Expertise in software applications.
  • Familiarity with accreditation requirements and process.
  • Ability to utilize and fully understand information applications.

Faculty, Assistant/Associate Professor Community Health 

Position Description:

The qualified candidate will maintain a teaching assignment in the area of expertise. The role will include:

  • Meeting all instructional requirements, including class and clinical scheduling, clinical site visits, preparing for class/clinical, evaluating assignments, assessing student learning outcomes and program evaluation.
  • Advising students on professional and/or course related matters.
  • Participating in curriculum development, including designing, reviewing and revising courses and programs.
  • Chairing and/or serving on student capstone or final project committees, if applicable.

The role may also entail supervising clinical mentors, clinical preceptors, teaching assistants and clinical associates according to approval and accrediting agencies.

Qualifications:

  • Doctorate degree in Nursing or closely related field required.
  • Must be eligible for RN licensure in Ohio.
  • The qualified candidate must have a minimum of two years of clinical nursing experience as a registered nurse. 
  • The preferred applicant will have a PhD or DNP in Nursing, teaching experience in BSN, MS and doctoral level nursing programs with an emphasis in community/population health.
  • The preferred candidate will have an established trajectory of funded research and a consistent pattern of disseminating scholarly products through publications in highly regarded scientific journals and presentations at national/international conferences.

Faculty, Assistant/Associate Professor Psych Mental Health NP Split with student Health Center 

Position Description:

The College of Nursing at The University of Toledo seeks an Assistant Professor, Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. This nurse practitioner will have a dual role as a faculty member in the College of Nursing and as a clinician who will see patients at the University of Toledo Student Counseling Center 20 hours per week (.5 FTE). Duties within the Student Counseling Center will include collaborating as a team member as a Psych NP, which may include intake and psychiatric assessments, 1:1 and/or group therapy, medication management, crisis management, educational and wellness programming and other duties as appropriate.

As part of the faculty role, the qualified candidate will maintain a teaching assignment in the area their expertise. The faculty role may include classroom, clinical and /or online teaching, clinical scheduling, clinical site visits, preparing for class/clinical, evaluating assignments, assessing student learning outcomes and program evaluation. Other possible duties include: advising students on professional and/or course related matters; participating in curriculum development, including designing, reviewing and revising courses and programs; chairing and/or serving on student capstone or final project committees; serving on College or University-level committees; and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Doctorate degree in Nursing (e.g., DNP or PhD) or closely related field required. 
  • Must be eligible for RN licensure in Ohio.
  • Must be a certified psychiatric mental-health nurse practitioner and have a minimum of two years of clinical nursing experience as a registered nurse.
  • Experience working with adolescent/young adult populations. 

Faculty, Assistant/Associate Professor Population Health with NP in Acute Care background 

Position Description:

The College of Nursing is seeking a certified Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AG-ACNP) to assist in the development of and instruction of an AG-ACNP track in the master’s program. This faculty position is accountable to the dean through the direct supervision of the department chairs. Faculty are expected to participate in teaching, scholarly activities and service commensurate with criteria for faculty rank.

Qualifications:

  • Applicants must hold a Master’s in Nursing degree and certification as an Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AG-ACNP).
  • Must be eligible for RN licensure in Ohio and meet background check requirements according to the state of Ohio.

Ideal Qualifications:

  • Must hold a Master’s in Nursing degree and certification as an Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AG-ACNP).
  • Doctor of Nursing Practice preferred. Experience as an AGACNP is also required.

Anticipated start date is May 11, 2020. Position will be opened until filled.

Faculty, Assistant/Associate Professor Population Community Health 

Position Description:

The College of Nursing is seeking an Assistant/Associate/Full Professor who exhibits content expertise in community/population health. The ideal candidate will conduct research and teach advanced research courses in the graduate program. This faculty position is accountable to the dean through the direct supervision of the department chairs. All faculty with the College of Nursing are expected to participate in teaching, scholarly activities and service commensurate with criteria for faculty rank

Qualifications:

  • Applicants must hold a terminal degree, a PhD in nursing or related field is the preferred terminal degree.
  • Applicants must also be eligible for RN licensure in Ohio and meet background check requirements according to the state of Ohio.
