Carlson Library
In 1972, one of UToledo's largest and most expensive construction projects was begun — a new, $8 million library in the center of campus
The Carlson Library was named for UToledo’s longest serving president, Dr. William S. Carlson. The six levels of the library contain more than 24 miles of shelving, more than 1.5 million bound volumes of journals and 2,800 study carrels.
The library has been renovated several times, most notably in 2007, when the library’s first floor and basement were renovated to add the new Information Commons.
The Carlson Library also hosts the Canaday Research Center, the Writing Center and the Learning Enhancement Center.
Fun fact: Students flock to the library not only to study but to grab a coffee at the second-floor Starbucks.
