Student Managed Portfolio Practicum (SMP)

Prerequisite: Fina-3480 (for undergraduates) // Buad-6200 (for MBAs)
(Students can take the required courses during the summer sessions at UT)

SMP is designed to give hands-on experience in portfolio management to students by managing $1 Million fund provided by the University of Toledo Foundation (UTF). The course is a pseudo money management firm with fiduciary responsibilities to the UTF. Each student is expected to act as real financial analyst and portfolio manager. Students are responsible for performing their own research to make investment decisions with the guidelines specified in the Investment Policy Statement (IPS). Similar to real-life money managing firms, students are required to prepare quarterly reports and also present their reports to the Board of UT Foundation’s Investment Committee on a quarterly basis as part of their responsibilities.

NOTE: SMP is a two consecutive semesters course. Students can start the course in either semester, and thus be either in Fall/Spring-Cohort or Spring/Fall-Cohort.
