Topic:

Professor Pradel will speak on the role that geotechnical engineers and county officials played in the death of 10 people in 2005, when a portion of the 1995 La Conchita Landslide was reactivated and buried 9 homes. From an ethics perspective, it is a fascinating case history of poor engineering choices as well as bad decisions from land owners and governmental officials.
