Dr. Mounika Polavarapu is an associate professor in the Department of Population Health at the University of Toledo. She also serves as research faculty in the Departments of Pediatrics and Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Toledo College of Medicine. She received her doctoral degree in Epidemiology and a Master of Public Health from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She obtained her medical degree from Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences in India. Before joining the University of Toledo, Dr. Polavarapu has served as M.P.H. Program Coordinator at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, teaching, advising, and mentoring graduate public health students.
Dr. Polavarapu employs an etiological epidemiological approach in her research, with primary interests in maternal and child health outcomes and their underlying disparities. Her work aims to improve the health and well-being of women, infants, children, and adolescents by investigating these disparities. Recently, her research has explored the multifaceted impact of the COVID-19 pandemic through both qualitative and quantitative lenses on various public health issues, including pregnancy experience, fertility preservation, and access to digital healthcare.
