Exercise is Medicine On Campus (EIM-OC) calls upon universities and colleges to promote physical activity as a vital sign of health. EIM-OC encourages faculty, staff, and students to work together toward improving the health and well-being of the campus community by:
- Making movement a part of the daily campus culture
- Assessing physical activity at every student health visit
- Providing students with the tools necessary to strengthen healthy physical activity habits that last a lifetime
- Connecting university health care providers with university health fitness specialists to provide a referral system for exercise prescription.
Exercise is Medicine On Campus Package
Enroll in our EIM-OC training package to reach your goals. Package includes:
- EIM-OC assessment
- Six, 30-minute personal training sessions with a certified fitness professional
- Eight-week membership to the University of Toledo Student Recreation Center and UTMC Morse Fitness Center
- Option to purchase Health Coaching sessions
Fitness Sessions Breakdown
Session 1: Review of assessment then first exercise session
Sessions 2 - 5: Individualized exercise sessions
Session 6: Individualized exercise session, satisfaction survey, follow-up sent to referring doctor, recommendations for fitness classes and other ways to stay active post-sessions
Health Coaching
Health coaching is designed to offer participants short term strategies to adopt healthy lifestyle behaviors that can assist in achieving goals. During the sessions, you may discuss things such as simple healthy eating tips, stress management techniques, emotional well-being support, connection to appropriate resources and accountability support. Sessions can be done in-person or virtually.
Available for additional $25 cost.

Exercise is Medicine On Campus Participant Guide
- Obtaining the Exercise is Medicine On Campus Prescription
- Patients of the University Health Center (UHC) will be assessed for need and readiness to adopt an exercise routine.
- If appropriate, the UHC Health Care Provider will provide a prescription for Exercise is Medicine® On Campus (EIM-OC) and other appropriate medical clearance.
- If you are not a patient of UHC, please share the medical clearance forms, located on our website, with your Health Care Provider to receive clearance to participate in EIM-OC.
- Once you have received your medical clearance, move on to Getting Started.
- Getting Started
- The UToledo EIM-OC Fitness team will contact you to schedule your Intro to EIM-OC assessment. This session is 1 hour and you will learn more about EIM-OC, exercise in general and complete pre-assessment testing. Please attend the session in comfortable clothing and tennis shoes.
- The UToledo EIM-OC health coaching team will contact you to schedule your initial coaching session to discuss health behavior goals. This session can be done in person or virtually and takes about 1 hour.
- All UToledo EIM-OC participants have access to a complimentary eight-week UToledo Rec Center membership. The membership is valid at either the UToledo Student Rec Center on Main Campus or the Morse Center on Health Science Campus and will be activated during your first personal training session.
- UToledo EIM-OC participants also have access to six, 30-minute personal training sessions at the UToledo Rec Center facilities. Your assigned trainer will contact you after your Intro to EIM-OC session to schedule your first training session.
- Once you have successfully launched your exercise routine, move on to Make it a Lifestyle.
- Make it a Lifestyle
- UToledo EIM-OC strives to help all participants create a sustainable exercise routine. For assistance with creating this plan, ask your health coach or UToledo Rec personal trainer.
- All UToledo EIM-OC participants will be asked to complete a final health coaching session and program evaluation at the end of eight weeks.
