William N. Free (MA, Indiana, 1957; PhD, Yale, 1961) is a professor of eighteenth-century English Literature. He has published a book on the eighteenth-century English poet, William Cowper, and articles on various eighteenth-century topics. His most recent work has been on the development of nationalism in seventeenth and eighteenth-century Britain.
