Dr. Yanqing Xu is a 2014 graduate of the PhD geography program at Louisiana State University where her dissertation focused on examining aspects of the built environment on the risk of obesity in the United States.  Dr. Xu has a MS in Cartography and GIS from Wuhan University (China) and B.Eng. in GIS from China University of Geosciences (China).  Her most recent appointment was a GIS technical lead/researcher position with the National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Response to Terrorism at the University of Maryland.  Dr. Xu’s research and teaching interests are in the areas of geographic information systems, spatial analysis/statistics, quantitative methods, urban geography, public health, economic geography and planning.
