Music Lessons Form

Want to take music lessons? Would you like your son or daughter to learn an instrument or get additional training outside their school? Looking for performance opportunities? The University of Toledo Department of Music Community Music Program is a great way for community members to take advantage of the tremendous skill of our gifted student faculty.

Through our partnership with BeInstrumental, scholarships for students in elementary through high school are available for those who qualify. Scholarships are for group lessons only. To see if you qualify, visit the BeInstrumental web site. When you register your child, you can also request that someone contact you with more information.

Group Music Lessons

The UToledo Department of Music Community Music Program offers separate group classes in beginning piano for kids and adults, and in beginning guitar for high school students and adults. Other instrument sessions may be added to the program in the future if there is interest. Group lessons are taught on a weekly basis in the UToledo Center for Performing Arts (main campus). There are 6 lessons in the package. See schedule below. Instruction will be provided by qualified, advanced music majors who study at The University of Toledo. Instructors who teach in the Community Music Program are approved by the department chair.

Group Lesson Tuition

Lessons are $75 for a six-week session and must be paid in full before the first lesson. Scholarships for group lessons (grades 1-12 only) are available through our partner, BeInstrumental, for those who qualify. Visit the BeInstrumental web site for details.

The online form can easily be filled out and submitted from a smartphone. We'll print the form you submit, but you will need to sign it in person at your child's first lesson. You can also print the filled out form yourself and bring it with you to the first lesson. Students who are under 18 CANNOT PARTICIPATE WITHOUT THIS FORM!

We want every participant to enjoy their group music lesson experience. This form outlines behavioral expectations and the consequences for not abiding by them. It must be signed by youth participants and their parents. Download the form, complete it, sign it and bring it with you to your first lesson. Extra copies will be available at the first lesson.

All 6-week sessions are to be paid in full before the classes begin.  Refunds will be issued in full or in part according to the following conditions.  Otherwise, there will be no refund.

If YOU need to cancel your registration:

  • You have one week prior to the first lesson to cancel, so that your seat can be given to another student.

  • Cancelations after one week before the first lesson will not be refunded.
  • If you are sick and cannot attend a lesson, please notify your teacher by email. But there will not be a refund.

  • If we cancel a class and it cannot be rescheduled, a refund of $12.50 will be issued for that class.
  • The University very rarely cancels classes. However, you can find specific instructions on local television, radio and print media in addition to posting notices on the internet on the UToledo homepage, at www.utoledo.edu
  • If the teacher is unable to be at the lesson, we will provide a substitute teacher. If this cannot be done, a refund of $12.50 for the lesson will be issued for that class
