In accordance with the requirements of Title II of the The American Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990 and as Amended in 2008 and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, The University of Toledo will not discriminate against qualified individuals with disabilities on the basis of disability in its services, programs, or activities. Education

As an institution of higher learning, The University of Toledo will not discriminate on the basis of disability in the application of admission process and access to services and programs.

Employment

The University of Toledo does not discriminate on the basis of disability in its hiring or employment practices and complies with all regulations promulgated by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission under Title I of the ADA and Reasonable Accommodations in Title II of the ADA.

Modifications to Policies and Procedures

The University of Toledo will make reasonable modifications (accommodations) to ensure that students, employees and the public with disabilities have equal opportunity to enjoy all of its programs, services and activities in the classroom, workplace, medical center and public events. For example, service animals are welcome and auxiliary aids are provided along with access to buildings.

Effective Communication

The University of Toledo will, upon request and in accordance with procedures in place, provide auxiliary aids and services leading to effective communication for qualified individuals with a disability so they can participate in the programs, services and activities offered to everyone at the University. This includes, and is not limited to, qualified sign language interpreters, documents made in alternative format for individuals with visual disabilities, and other ways of making information and communication accessible to people who have speech, hearing or visual impairments.

The ADA does not require The University of Toledo to take any action that would fundamentally alter the nature of its programs or services, or impose undue financial or administrative burden.

The ADA compliance officer has the authority to assure campus wide adherence to 3364-50-03, Nondiscrimination on the Basis of Disability policy. Each individual unit/department will be fiscally responsible for any accommodations necessary within their unit/department. Responsibilities of the ADA compliance officer include:

A) Monitoring and assisting ADA coordinators in developing of ADA policies which further the compliance with the American with Disabilities Act;

B) Directing education/training for ADA awareness;

C) Forwarding complaints to office of institutional diversity;

D) Serve as chairperson of the ADA compliance committee;

E) Serve as an ex officio member of the ADA appeals committee.
