period equity initiatives
The Eberly Center is proud to support and house Period Equity Initiatives on campus.
Free period products are now available in all academic buildings on Main and Health
Science Campus through an initiative by the UToledo Student Government and Catharine
S. Eberly Center for Women to advance period equity initiatives on campus.
Students can access the free products in at least one bathroom per academic building and at least one single-occupancy restroom per campus. All free dispsenser locations are listed below with single-occupancy restrooms denoted by (SOR).
history
Student Government and Period UT (previously Period MedLife) have been leaders on campus in the work towards breaking the stigma around menstruation and providing campus with free products in academic buildings. Many other student organizations, departments, and offices have supported efforts through donation drives and various programs.
In Fall 2019, Student Government President and Vice President worked with the Division of Student Affairs to pilot four free dispensers on Main Campus: Rocket Hall 1531, Student Union, Carlson Library 1063, and Nitscke 1020.
In Spring 2022, an Eberly Center Intern and Student Government Senators worked to collect 500 signatures to get a referendum on the ballot. UToledo students voted to pass the referendum asking UToledo to provide period products to students for free. During the 22-23 academic year, Student Government and the Eberly Center hosted donation drives and used volunteers to put free products in various bathrooms around Main Campus.
During the 23-24 academic year, Student Government Director of Period Equity worked to get funding from President Postel and Dr. Sammy Spann for products and the Eberly Center worked with the Deans to get funding for dispensers in their buildings. The Eberly Center covered the cost of any academic building not covered and a single-occupancy restroom on the Health Science Campus. All free dispsenser locations are listed below with single-occupancy restrooms denoted by (SOR).
