Opioid Research

UT/Community Partners Regional Teach-in

introduction

The UT/Community Partners Regional Teach-In is an opportunity to introduce your family, employees or students to facts about Opioid Use Disorder (OUD)--a brain disease that leaves sufferers thinking irrationally. The Teach-In will reduce stigma, which can save lives, and introduce community members to resources available for both those suffering from OUD and their families and friends.

statistics

The Opioid epidemic is hitting Ohio hard, as these statistics demonstrate:

  • Since 2007, opioid overdose has been the #1 cause of unintentional deaths in Ohio--higher than deaths from motor vehicle crashes.
  • Ohio is #2 in the U.S. (behind West Virginia) for number of opioid overdose deaths.

To combat this issue, in 2017, UT President Sharon Gaber established the UT Opioid Task Force, which has grown to include collaborators from community agencies and organizations.
