Currently, over 5 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease or related Dementias and over 15 million Americans provide unpaid care for these persons. Each year, about 800,000 individuals in the U.S. have a stroke. Roughly 50 percent of the 4.8 million stroke survivors living at home require assistance due to physical or cognitive deficits and 4/5 families provide this care. Family caregivers account for 80 percent of the care provided in long-term care and support services, but are often untrained in regard to medical conditions and care.
