Program Faculty

Sarah LongSarah Long, Ph.D., AT, ATC, is the Program Director for the UToledo ATP.  She earned Bachelor’s Degrees in Athletic Training and Exercise Science from Miami University in 2007.  She attended University of Toledo for graduate school, earning a Master’s Degree in Exercise Science in 2009 and a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology in 2022.

Sarah began her career as an Assistant Athletic Trainer at University of Toledo in August 2009.  She spent a season with the women’s volleyball team before spending 2 seasons with the football team.  Sarah transitioned to the academic side of the AT program in August 2012. Sarah was certified by the BOC and licensed in the state of Ohio in June 2007.  She is a member of the National Athletic Trainer’s Association as well as the Great Lake Athletic Trainer’s Association and the Ohio Athletic Trainer’s Association.  Sarah resides in Toledo along with her husband, Matt and two children. 

Shari NorteShari Norte, MS, AT, ATC, PES, is the Director of Clinical Education for the UToledo Professional ATP. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training from Gardner-Webb University and a Master of Science degree in Kinesiology from Louisiana State University. Additionally, she completed the Athletic Training Fellowship at The Steadman Clinic in Vail, CO.

Clinically, she served as an athletic trainer in an orthopedic practice at Orthopedic Associates of Dutchess County in Poughkeepsie, NY and then as Head Athletic Trainer at St. Anne’s-Belfield School in Charlottesville, VA for four years. In 2013, she completed a volunteer rotation at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. Shari is certified by the BOC and licensed in the state of Ohio. She is a member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association as well as the Great Lakes Athletic Trainers Association and the Ohio Athletic Trainers’ Association. Shari resides in Sylvania with her husband, Grant, and their two sons.

bazettjonesDavid Bazett-Jones, PhD, AT, ATC, CSCS is an Associate Professor and the Program Director for the UToledo Post-Professional Athletic Training Program. His research interests include patellofemoral pain in youth and adults, hip and trunk muscle function testing, and lower extremity and trunk movement analysis. Generally, his research aims to understand how and why people have chronic knee pain and what we can do to intervene.

Dr. Bazett-Jones earned a Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in 2004.  He attended Ball State University for graduate school, earning a Master’s Degree in Exercise Science/Biomechanics in 2006.  He received a PhD in Health Sciences with concentrations in biomechanics and motor control from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 2011. He has worked as an athletic trainer at all levels of sport, from middle-school to professional football. He is a member of the National Athletic Trainer’s Association, Great Lake Athletic Trainer’s Association, Ohio Athletic Trainer’s Association and American College of Sports Medicine.  He resides in Toledo with his wife, Debbie, and three children. 

GrantNorteGrant NortePhD, AT, ATC, CSCS, is an Associate Professor for the Athletic Training Program. Grant is an athletic trainer and sports medicine researcher with an interest in the neuromuscular consequences of lower extremity joint injuries. Specifically, his work aims to study the neurophysiological origins of post-traumatic muscular dysfunction in patients with and without knee osteoarthritis to better understand early intervention paradigms in active populations.

Grant received a BS in Exercise Science and Sports Medicine from California Lutheran University, a MEd in Athletic Training from the University of Virginia, and a PhD from the University of Virginia. Additionally, he completed an Athletic Training Fellowship at the Steadman Clinic in Vail, Colorado. Before entering the doctoral program at UVA, he served as the Head Athletic Trainer for State University of New York at New Paltz. He now resides in Sylvania, Ohio with his wife, Shari.
