Faculty members in our college conduct diversity presentations. They are committed to DEI in their research, mentorship and teaching. Research ranges from cross-racial interactions in counseling and the classroom to black mental health and more.

Inaugural diversity poster presentations

The College of Health and Human Services Diversity Committee is happy to announce inaugural diversity poster presentations on April 24th!
This is an opportunity to present and showcase your work on critical issues related to diversity in your field. Undergraduate, graduate students and faculty from all disciplines in the College of Health and Human Services are invited to submit proposals to present an individual or a group presentation on any topic related to diversity. The topics may include but are not limited to race, ethnicity, culture, gender, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, age, impairment(s)/disability(ies), social class/socioeconomic status and linguistic diversity. Your submissions can be part of classroom work, thesis or other projects.

Posters and other types of displays based on research, community engagement, service learning, efforts to promote inclusive care or any other creative projects covering any topic related to diversity are welcome. Please submit a 200-word presentation summary that includes:

  • Title
  • Background and Rationale
  • Methodology
  • Results
  • Conclusions and Implications

Dean's Diversity Advocacy Awards

The College of Health and Human Services Diversity Committee in coordination with the Dean presents the Annual Dean’s Diversity Advocacy Award yearly to a student, staff member, and faculty member (3 categories) who champion the advancement of diversity, equity, and inclusion in health and human services. The Dean’s office embraces the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion as part of the mission of the College and are excited to recognize those members of our college who advance this work.

The award criteria are as follows:

Student Awards: One for an undergraduate and one for a graduate student.

  • Demonstrates leadership and a commitment to advance equity, diversity and inclusion on campus and in the community
  • Demonstrates leadership and a commitment to advance 
  • Advocates and promotes the inclusion of students of diverse backgrounds and their interests

Staff Award:

  • Demonstrates leadership and involvement in supporting equity, diversity and inclusion
  • Mentors students from underrepresented minority groups to promote success
  • Advocates for policies and procedures that are aimed at increasing representation and retention of students from underrepresented minority populations
  • Provide a welcoming presence and contributes to an equitable and inclusive culture

Faculty Award:

  • Infuses theories concerning equity, diversity, and inclusion into curricula and courses
  • Employs teaching methods that expand students’ ability to think critically about equity, diversity, inclusiveness, privilege and oppression as it relates to theories and practice within their discipline
  • Creates new courses that integrate theories and concepts about inequities in social, economic, and political institutions and examines structures of privilege and oppression in order to understand the diverse experiences of people
  • Conducts research that promotes increased knowledge about the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion of diverse populations in research
  • Advocates in-service activities to promote equity, diversity and inclusion on campus and in the community
  • Mentors students from underrepresented minority groups
  • Creates classroom settings that promote discourse and learning about equity, diversity and inclusion
  • Demonstrates leadership and a commitment to advance equity, diversity and inclusion on campus and in the community
