Dr. April Demers serves as a visiting assistant professor within the School of Population Health.  She received her doctoral degree in Health Education from the University of Toledo.  She also has a master’s degree in Management, Strategy, and Leadership and a graduate certificate in Data Analytics from Michigan State University, as well as graduate specializations in Biostatistics and Epidemiology in Public Health from Johns Hopkins University. 

Before joining the University of Toledo, Dr. Demers served for over twenty years leading a variety of nonprofit organizations and community-based health initiatives aimed at reducing health disparities.  Most recently, she served as a Director with ProMedica’s National Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) Institute.  Her research and advocacy interests are in addressing social determinants of health to promote health equity and to improve the well-being of entire communities.
