Historical Sketch

            The Child Conservation League is a national, non-profit, non-sectarian, educational organization that was founded in 1918.  Its purpose is to promote more effective standards of family living and to establish closer communication between home and community.  Ohio formed its first CCL chapters in 1920, and the first meeting of the University Circle CCL was held on April 10, 1946. 
            Today, the CCL and its affiliate leagues, e.g., the Ohio CCL, strive to educate mothers on all aspects of parenthood.  It also attempts to organize efforts pertaining to childhood and its needs through education, philanthropy and legislation.  Each league also conducts fund raising events to support the Ohio Scholarship Loan Fund.

Scope and Content Note

            The records of the University Circle Child Conservation League include documentation from the organization’s inception on April 10, 1946, until November 8, 1975.  These records primarily consist of minutes of League meetings.  Attendance records are also periodically intermixed with them.  The University Circle CCL used a school-year calendar, starting their year in September and ending it in May.  However, there are occasional gaps in the sequence where one or more months are missing from any given year.  Moreover, this collection also contains correspondence, a listing of members and officers, a newspaper clipping, a secretary’s guide to minute keeping, and undated minutes.  The two binders that stored the minutes are also included in the file.
