Historical Sketch
The Maumee Valley Hospital established the Maumee Valley Hospital Advancement Trust in 1947, after employees demanded that they be reimbursed for their work caring for Lucas County’s indigent patients. But many of the employees decided that instead of earning money for themselves from these patients, they would put that money towards improvements for the hospital and medical education. The trust helped to fund the library of the Academy of Medicine of Toledo and Lucas County, promoted people speaking on medical topics on television and radio, and established discussion panels on current medical topics. But the major project of the Trust was the organization of postgraduate lectures for staff and members of the medical community.
