Historical/Biographical Sketch

Ivan Zarobsky was the Head of Engineering Drawing and Machine Design at the University of Toledo from 1921 until his death in 1953.
           

Before coming to UT, Zarobsky earned his BA and MA in mechanical engineering from Ohio State University. He then went on to work at numerous places including, but not limited to: Bowling Green Rubber Co., Surface Combustion Co., Curtiss Aeroplane and Motor Corp., and numerous automobile industries. At UT, he was a member of the Society for the Promotion of Engineering Education and the American Association of University Professors.


Scope and Content Note

Collection consists primarily of course related materials of Ivan Zarobsky, professor and head of the departments of Mechanical Engineering Design and Engineering Drawing from 1921 until his death in 1953. Included are course syllabi and examinations, sample grade books, class notes, and several examples of student work (drawings).


Also contained are transcripts of chapters of the book “Fundamentals of Machine Design” which he co-authored along with several items of correspondence pertaining to that publication, and three unidentified photographs of the Curtiss School of Flying (1919). Materials are arranged by series based on Zarobsky’s activities.
