Historical/Biographical Sketch

Delta Kappa Gamma Society is a national honorary society for women in education. It was founded on May 11, 1929 at the Faculty Women’s club at the University of Texas in Austin. Dr. Annie Webb Blanton, faculty member at the University of Texas, originally conceived the idea of a national organization for women educators. Today, the Delta Kappa Gamma Society is a multinational organization recruiting women educators from colleges in 17 countries.

Scope and Content Note

This collection contains three scrapbooks of photographs, newspaper clippings, and memorabilia from the Delta Kappa Gamma Society. The scrapbooks have been dismantled due to the deteriorating paper upon which the contents were placed. The contents have been filed according to the scrapbook of origin and in the order in which they appear.

Items contained in Box 1 are documents, correspondence, programs, and non-paper items such as plastic name tags and ribbons. Newspaper clippings have been photocopied and the originals for Scrapbook 1 are contained in the file folder. The page number is penciled in on the back and they are in consecutive order. Clippings from the other two books were originally glued to the page and remain in the book. Titles have been written on the pages to show where each item was originally placed.

Photographs are stored in Box 2. They are arranged by scrapbook and page number. Captions originally appearing have been written on the back and each photograph has been numbered corresponding to its position on the original page.
Box 3 contains the scrapbooks themselves and some other non-paper items which were impractical to place with other documents. Each book has a mylar strip beneath it so it may be easily lifted from the box. In addition, each book is numbered on the front cover.
