UToledo's accredited B.S.N. program was the first nursing undergraduate program in northwest Ohio. The University of Toledo College of Nursing remains committed to innovation; evidence-based practice; compassionate, patient-centered care; and the development of leaders who will help shape the future of healthcare.

Freshman Admissions Overview

We are committed to enrolling an academically-qualified, diverse student body. Traditionally, there has been one pathway toward completing a UToledo B.S.N. degree: students applied to pre-nursing, completed prerequisites, and then competitively applied to the nursing major, usually at the end of their sophomore year. Now we are offering a second pathway: GUARANTEED ADMISSION to the nursing major for qualified applicants.

We recognize that while academic achievement is a key factor in determining student success in our nursing programs, other factors also are important. Thus, we are integrating a more "holistic review" into our admission processes to help us to learn more about each applicant as an individual.

Guaranteed Admission

Academically qualified applicants who have a minimum high school GPA of 3.7 and an ACT composite score of 24 or 1160 SAT will be guaranteed admission from high school directly into our B.S.N. program (nursing major).

Students who are admitted directly into the nursing major will be expected to maintain a minimum college GPA of 3.5.

Admission to pre-nursing

For those students who do not meet the criteria for the direct, guaranteed admission to the nursing major, we will continue to offer our traditional pathway because we want you to be part of Rocket Nursing.

Applicants with a 2.75 high school GPA and a 19 ACT or 980 SAT score will be admitted to our pre-nursing program.

After you have completed all prerequisites, you can apply to the nursing major. Minimum criteria for admission to the nursing major include:

    • Minimum cumulative college GPA of 3.0
    • Holistic review of your application materials (details below)

Holistic Review Process

Our holistic review takes into consideration the circumstances that make each student unique. In addition to academic achievement, we will undertake a holistic review of applications based on:

    • Evidence of community service/leadership activities
    • Participation in extracurricular activities
    • Significant responsibility in a family, community, job or activity
    • Military service
    • First-generation college student
    • Contribution to the cultural, gender, age, economic, racial or geographic diversity of the healthcare workforce

If you do not have a 2.75 high school GPA or 19 ACT, you can still be a Rocket! You will be admitted to University College and have an opportunity to join Rocket Nursing after you have completed a semester at the University of Toledo with a college GPA of 2.75 or higher. At that time, you can change your major to pre-nursing. You can then apply to the nursing major upon completion of prerequisites.

Students must complete their applications by February 1, 2020, to be considered for our NEW guaranteed admissions program.

If you are offered guaranteed admission, commitment deposits must be made by March 1, 2020, to hold your seat in the program.

After you complete the pre-nursing prerequisites on our Main Campus, you will spend your final two years on our Health Science Campus. We take pride in our interprofessional learning opportunities through which you will learn alongside other healthcare students. We also are proud of The University of Toledo's Interprofessional Immersive Simulation Center — one of the nation's most advanced healthcare training facilities.

Admission to the nursing major is offered fall, spring and summer terms. Students who do not accept placement/seat for the semester offered can reapply for admission for a different semester.
