17th Annual Dorothy Hussain Distinguished Lecture

Advancing Global Health and Equity: Challenges and Opportunities

Join us for the 17th Annual Dorothy Hussain Distinguished Lecture on Advancing Global Health and Equity. This lecture will provide global health insights for students, faculty, staff and healthcare professionals. Participants will gain knowledge, network with healthcare leaders and discuss avenues for meaningful contributions to global health nursing. The University of Toledo College of Nursing is accredited as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation. This activity is awarded 2.0 contact hours of nursing continuing professional development.

elizabeth madigan

Elizabeth Madigan, PhD, RN, FAAN

Immediate past Sigma Chief Executive Officer.

During her 6-year tenure, Sigma added 72 new chapters, including those in 12 countries: Ireland, Jamaica, Israel, Scotland, Italy, Croatia, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Indonesia, Finland, Chile, and Sierra Leone.

She graduated with her BSN from Wright State University, MSN from The Ohio State University, and PhD from Case Western Reserve University. Her clinical background and program of research focused on home health care. She has been funded by the National Institutes of Health and private foundations.  She is widely published in the area. She led the global health initiatives for the Frances Payne School of Nursing and provided consultation in multiple countries for home care and aging care in the community. She had led initiatives in strengthening the scholarship offerings from Sigma, raised funds for new research grants in conjunction with partner organizations, and obtained funding to support nursing students in accelerated baccalaureate and Doctor of Nursing practice programs.

About Dorothy (Dottie) Gladys Hussain

Dorothy Hussain

Sept. 18, 1944 - Dec. 2, 2006

 

A 1964 graduate of Maumee Valley Hospital School of Nursing, Dottie Hussain’s nursing career spanned 32 years as a staff and critical care nurse. Her professional career included working locally at Maumee Valley Hospital of Toledo, Detroit General Hospital, St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo and The University of Toledo Medical Center (formerly Medical College of Ohio).

She was a mentor of young nurses, medical students and residents and an avid champion for patients’ rights.  As a two-time recipient of The University of Toledo Medical Center Nursing Excellence Award she was recognized for her clinical acumen, passion for the nursing profession and willingness to go beyond the call of duty. Her professional career took her abroad as an invited visiting lecturer to the First Teaching Hospital in Beijing, China and West China University of Medical Sciences in Chengdu, China.
