Filipino-American History Month

Purpose: Filipino-American History Month acknowledges the first recorded presence of Filipinos in the United States, which occurred on October 18, 1587, and commemorates the contributions Filipinos have made to American history that is not taught in school or found in history books.

Enjoy Filipino food, lumpia, participate in the traditional dance Tinikling, learn about the art of Filipino tattoos through henna and meet the Filipino American Association (FAA) executive board! Come and learn about the 1965-1970 Delano Grape Strike and Boycott. Filipino American workers asked Cesar Chavez to join their cause as they held a strike against Delano, CA grape growers, protesting poor pay and working conditions. Cultural foods will be shared. This event is presented by the Filipino American Association, the potential candidates of Lambda Theta Alpha and the Latino Student Union.
