Black and Latino Excellence (BLX) Transition Program Application

Black & Latino Student Excellence Transition Program (BLX) is a five-day (Sunday, Aug. 22 to Thursday, Aug. 26) early arrival initiative designed to help high school students succeed in their academic, cultural, and social transition from high school to college.

MORE Institute students

BLX participants will:

  • Feel connected to the University of Toledo
  • Identify opportunities for campus and community engagement
  • Become more secure and affirmed in their identity as Black and Latino student at the University of Toledo
  • Learn how to use campus academic and support resources

BLX is open to residential and commuter students.

Students will move into campus housing on Sunday, Aug. 22, and spend five days receiving enhanced mini-sessions on Math and English, and STEM academic preparation, cultural identity workshops, leadership training, and peer support with a particular emphasis on affirming students’ cultural identity.

We encourage students to continue their experience from the summer into the fall and spring in our Black & Latino Student Excellence (BLX) Living Learning Community in Parks Tower Residence Hall, a specialized community of students who live and learn together in a dedicated area of a residence hall.

This LLC helps new students understand the academic and social expectations of campus life and serve as an incubator for community engagement and social change. Students will have the opportunity to engage with various social justice issues through lectures, films, peer dialogue, writing activities, and off-campus activities. Ultimately, participants will learn how to use their personal experiences, interests, and leadership skills to transform their communities.
