At The University of Toledo, blue and gold make green as we strive to minimize our impact on the planet. To ensure UT moves in this direction, we have made sustainability a key component of our Strategic Plan.

Sustainability is ingrained even in our University policies, the University Sustainability Policy (3364-5-06) states that, "The University of Toledo is committed to environmentally responsible use of resources and sustainability in all areas of its environment. The university seeks to integrate the values of sustainability, stewardship, and conservation of resources into activities and services." The purpose of the policy is to, "To formally establish the university’s commitment to sustainable practices, to foster energy conservation, and to provide for environmental stewardship."

To further our vow to sustainability, past President Jacob's joined UT with hundreds of other schools in becoming a signatory of the American College & University Presidents' Climate Commitment in 2009. As a signatory, UT pledges itself to becoming a climate neutral campus.

The University of Toledo completed one comprehensive Sustainability Strategic Plan to guide UT actions as they relate to climate neutrality and sustainability. This document includes:

  • UT's Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventory through FY2014
  • UT's Climate Action Plan to guide GHG emission reductions
  • Strategic goals and actions to further sustainability on campus
