Glass Bowl Stadium

Though it’s now one of the country’s premier football stadiums, UToledo’s iconic Glass Bowl had humble beginnings. Construction began on what would first become known as “University Stadium” in 1936 as a part of a Works Progress Administration project.

When workers finished in 1937, the stadium had an initial seating capacity of just 8,000. But after years of expansions and renovations, UToledo now regularly welcomes more than 30,000 fans to Rocket football games, including a record 36,582 at a 2001 game against Navy.

The stadium features a state-of-the-art press tower, which can hold more than 1,000 people on its three levels. And just west of the Glass Bowl is the Alumni Pavilion, where the UToledo Alumni Association holds pregame tailgates for Rocket fans.

The Glass Bowl is a significant homefield advantage for the Rockets. UToledo’s football team has won nearly 70% of its home games since the stadium opened.
