University of Toledo

Libbey Hall

In the depths of the Depression, the University asked the government for a $250,000 loan to construct a dormitory, faculty apartments and a student union. The buildings were completed in 1935 in the Collegiate Gothic architectural style of University Hall.

Libbey Hall served as one of UToledo’s first student dormitories. It housed a women’s dormitory on the top floor and a student union and coffee shop on the first and second floors.

In 1995, Libbey Hall was renovated and served as the home for the Department of Communication. It was closed in 2000, but was renovated in the summer of 2013 and reopened as the home of the Office of Undergraduate Admission.

Just to the west of Libbey Hall are Scott Hall and Tucker Hall. The two buildings served as apartments for faculty, and Scott also included a home for the president. Today, they are dormitories.
